Black Butte Ranch
There is a Place
Located on the eastern edge of the Cascade Range in Central Oregon, Black Butte Ranch is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by ponderosa pine and aspen trees, with views of five snowcapped peaks as well as Black Butte itself. There are meadows, lakes, and natural springs including Paulina Spring. Horses and cattle graze in the meadows on lazy summer days and there is an abundance of wildlife living in this picturesque setting.
With seemingly endless recreational opportunities on the Ranch itself, visitors can enjoy golf, tennis, pickle ball, bicycle and walking trails, horseback riding, fly fishing and swimming. In addition, Black Butte Ranch is considered a gateway to the many recreational and cultural opportunities located nearby in this region known as Central Oregon.
Author Kathryn Graves Yoder shares the story of how several young men with a vision ahead of its time, transformed a working cattle ranch with a rich historical past, into an iconic Oregon landmark. When golf course architect Robert Muir Graves was chosen to join the team, it began a love affair that lasted throughout his lifetime and continues on through his family.
While the story of this property begins with the ancestral home of the first Oregonians, it also includes the stories of many individuals and families that have helped develop Black Butte Ranch into the destination it is today.
